Please fix System audio recording
Please fix System audio recording
The app crashes every time. I want refund.
Whenever I try to record, it won’t let me stop the video, Please fix this bug,
I did 3 takes of a 10 minute screen recording, got everything edited just right, then started the export process only to find it’s going to take 3.5 HOURS to save this to a movie file!! Screenium is only using 5-10% of one CPU score. UPDATE: Support was VERY quick to respond and, after a good amount of back and forth, figured out the issue. Something to do with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M card in my Macbook Pro. it won’t be fixed until v3.0.1, but they had a fix in place and submitted to the App Store the next morning, just waiting for Apple to approve. ::thumbsup:: (Specifically export was super faster ONLY for typical screen resolutions it seems, and not non-standard sizes) Still stinks that I wasted about 4 hours of my day today trying to “quickly send over a 10 min instructional video” for someone. I ended up copying files and installing Screenium on a Mac Mini and encoded the video in 15 minutes as a workaround.
Seems good but I cannot use it. Keep crashing on startup (on both of my Macs, OS X 10.9 and 10.11 beta). Already report to tech support and waiting. UPDATED: It seems to be some in-compatibility with input methods other than English. The tech support gave me a test version of 3.0.1 which does fix this issue. Hope the App Store version go live soon.
In a few words I say this: You should also know and experience this amazing application. One of the best in class! I recommend!
There was some quirkiness in detecting my mouse clicks and export is ridiculously slow. A one minute video is taking one hour and 15 minutes to export.
Used to love the app in v2 but v3 is not a good upgrade. Takes too long to export. A 2 minute video took over an hour to export.
I was hesitant to try Screenium because of the mediocre reviews, but I’m SO glad I did. I was frustrated with the complexity of Screenflow and Camtasia and wanted something that was easier to navigate. Screenium is very intuitive and I am able to create screencasts quickly with no guessing re: what quality will be exported. I emailed support at 2am because I was having an issue with exports. In less than an hour, I got an email back with a patched version (the App Store version should be updated soon) and was able to meet my project deadline. That alone sold me on Screenium even moreso than the simple UI. I highly recommend this app if you just need to record good quality screencasts without a ton of options (though there are plenty of options for adding animations, text, etc.).
Exactly what I was looking for! Easy to use, had my recording started after a few clicks and didn’t notice any delays nor extra CPU usage, even when finishing recording. After recording you’re dropped into an editor that’s probably way more powerful than I need, with the most important tools always in reach. The update to 3.0.1 adds even more speed™ to the export. Very nice and highly recommended!
I have been using Screenium since version 1 to prepare tutorials for our softwares. Overall, this software does the job, capture your screen or a portion of it, with multiple audio tracks. My problem is the features that are constantly removed as new versions came up. First, in Screenium 2 you can’t choose the video codec nor where to store the videos, quite annoying if you were in 2012 using the some older versions of SSD drives as your boot disk…. but thats history, that setting is back now. Now, with Screenium 3 your screen captures are in some propietary format that you need to export before been able to use it in your favorite video editor. This means one extra step and up to 15 minutes for a 10 min video (on my i5 processor). Finally, that red frame that used to be there, since Screenium 1, when you where capturing a portion of your screen.. is gone, so you need to find out another way to know which portion of the screen you are recording. Also, hotkeys for “Pause” and “Add Chapter Mark” are gone, so is the “Mouse Area” recording mode. Update (3.0.1): Export is faster now.. thats all, still no red frame.
I’ve made hundreds of computer-based training videos and I was intrigued when I read about Screenium. I’ve never heard of this product before, so not sure what versions 1.0 and 2.0 are like, but I consider this an “entry-level+” kind of product. There are some interesting “advanced features”, but for the most part it’s pretty basic. If you’re looking for a relatively simply, relatively powerful tool at a good price point, this is probably a good move. If you’re looking to buy a more professional tool, go with Screenflow (or perhaps ScreenFlow + Final Cut and perhaps Motion). At $25 (the sale price), it’s a good deal… at $50, I’m not sure unless more substantial features are made over time. All in all a good effort that appropriately fills a certain price point.
Ive tried to make a screen recording, it works when i do a short test, but after I try recording a long screen recording, it does not record my camera or sound. Its pretty much useless. I gave up and used quicktime instead.
Had purchased Screenium 2 some years ago but I haven’t been too happy with it, especially witht the slow recording performance Screenium 2 offered. Screenium 3 works on a whole different level. Recording is fast without any stuttering and you can add texts or images to videos using the video editor. I haven’t used the editor a lot but it seems quite nice. Support is very responsive, they helped me with an export issue I encountered. The promised to speed up export a lot with version 3.0.1
I have to say I’m really disappointed in Screenium. I bought this specifically because it says it can handle complex games such as Heroes of the Storm. While it was able to record footage just fine. The exported video had framerate issues and the audio was out of sync. I tried different export settings and the exported video still had these issues.
Updated 8-22-15: version 3.0.2 still has a problem with recording audio from some external audio interfaces (sync and pitch problems) under certain circumstances, including recording in games, which is unfortunately the reason that I purchased it. The developer was responsive to my initial queries about this, but it doesn’t look like his “fix" actually resolves the situation in some circumstances. I think I am going to have to look elsewhere for a screen recording app that suits my purposes.
I’ve encountered several really irritating bugs with Screenium and their support/documentation is pretty poor. I’m recording instructional videos for a client and I stop between each segment. Well if you want to join these segments together in one video you cant just stop/start recording in the same “composition”, you have to cut and paste and then move the entire segment into position. This becomes a complete pain once you have several you’re working with. So the above I guess could be a design decision (however frustrating and stupid it seems to be be) but this is definitely a bug, often I will select the option to have one segment of video transition with the previous segment. However the software decides that I actually meant to just swap the two video segments on the timeline. Usually manually moving them back and then selecting the transition option will correct this. Another bug - if you have a saved composition, when you re-open it you need to re-enable the mouse cursor on every video segment. It will then turn that option back off (regardless of the fact that you saved with the option turned on) if you close and re-open the program Finally, the worst thing is Youtube quality. Regardless of how you export the video it ends up being awful quality on Youtube. Basically I wasted 50 dollars on this software and will have to go out looking for something else now.
In a lot of ways, I love Screenium. The recording works well, the animation support works well... but the bugs just make it all a broken experience. The problems Ive hit arent fundamental flaws. They can be fixed, and I *really* hope they will be soon. Here are the issues Ive repeatedly hit: * The crashes. Oh man the crashes. Ive gotten to the point where I hit save after every little thing. Ive had crashes from changing properties on objects, rearranging elements, and.. I dont know, its hard to pin-point. * Every time I load my composition again, I have to re-enable the mouse cursor on all my videos, of which there are many. There appears to be no way to batch-set this. * My animations sometimes flat-out disappear, or cease to work. This seems to happen from time to time when batch-moving several elements. * Sometimes my text just disappears. I have to delete all my animations and set it up again from scratch. * There seems to be no way to recombine video clips. If I cut out a section of a video, Im now stuck with two videos to manage. * I cant create a new text visual style from scratch. I have to use a built-in one, edit it, and then save it under a new name. * If several text blocks use the same shared visual style, Id expect changes to that style to affect all text blocks. That doesnt appear to happen. * Sometimes video clips smaller than the total video dimensions end up with the wrong size. I split a video, went back to it later, and the two parts arent sized the same. Who knows why. * Seems theres no way to adjust the width/height the same way one can adjust the X/Y of a clip or text. This seems like a significant oversight. These are pretty major annoyances, but if those were fixed, Id easily bump this up to 5 stars. I like a lot of what this offers. Just wish I could use it reliably.
Its a nice app but its a bit too crashy. I always hit save after every little thing I do, I’ve been burned too many times by this app. Wish it was more stable, I might have to look elsewhere.
Screenium 1 & 2 were awesome. But, this version is overloaded with stuff I don’t care about at all. And it won’t record system audio. Soundflower is not recognized by Apple so it won’t install either. Also, previous versions recorded automatically to a video file, instead in this version you have to use their editing suite and export to a video file (which is annoyingly slow) I like to edit in Adobe Premiere not their Windows Movie Maker style editor. There is no volume control in the editor, just a mute option. That does no good at all. I really wish they would revert back to the orginal way it recorded. Not worth the $50 at all...
